Advocaat Speaks To Dutch Media.

Advocaat Speaks To Dutch Media.
Former Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat has spoken to the Dutch Media about his reasons for leaving Sunderland.

Advocaat says that the squad at the club is simply not good enough and he did not fancy what should have been his last season in football fighting off relegation.

Advocaat had made up his mind to leave before the game with West Ham on Saturday, but the club only officially announced his parting on Sunday afternoon, although by then the rumour mill was going wild.

The current squad just don't seem to want to give their all for the manager or anyone else for that matter and where you could say that Advocaat could have got Sunderland out of trouble, he didn't have the backing of his squad.

So with the boss unable to produce a win after eight Premier League games, it seems like he had just about had enough.

Speaking to Studio Voetball, he said: 'I already made my decision last week. But the club asked me to do the match versus West Ham, and I really wanted to finish in style.

'The struggle against relegation is not my cup of tea. I think it was time for someone else to take over at Sunderland. I became negative, and that didn't feel like myself.'

Advocaat arrived at the Stadium of Light in March and was given the almost impossible task of saving the club from the drop and somehow he did the job.

This lead to him making a u-turn on his decision to retire from the game and he signed a new contract in the summer.

Its now known that there are now players in the squad that Advocaat did not want and everything came to a head this weekend when Sam Announced he had had enough.

We'd like Big Sam for a bit, but I wouldn't mind Nigel Pearson
