Poyet New AEK Boss

Poyet New AEK Boss
Former Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is the new manager of AEK Athens.

Poyet was thought to be in the running for the vacant seat at Aston Villa but decided to take up the challenge in Athens, Sky Sports tells us.

Poyet was removed from his position as Sunderland boss back in March after an appalling run of results left the club just one point from the drop zone.

The Uruguayan has signed an initial deal that will keep him at the club up until summer 2016 and if everything is well after that time he has the option of another two years.

A statement on AEK's official website read: 'AEK FC announces the agreement with the Uruguayan manager Gustavo Poyet until the summer 2016.

'The new manager will sign his contract tomorrow.'
