Big Sam Settles 'For Valuable Point'

Big Sam Settles 'For Valuable Point'
Sunderland had to settle for a point from their home game with Bournemouth on Saturday, but manager Sam Allardyce was quite happy with the draw.

The home side had the worst start they could have hoped for when Benik Afobe headed the visitors in front in the 13th minute.

After that Sunderland had Vito Mannone to thank for a number of saves from chances that could have seen the Cherries move further in front.

But the Black Cats found their feet and pulled level through Patrick who celebrated his second goal in as many games in first half stoppage time.

There was a chance for Sunderland to have taken all three points but Bournemouth keeper Artur Boruc made a great save to stop Billy Jones' header finding the net.

After the game, Sam Allardyce told BBC Sport: 'After their goal went in, there were 20 minutes where we hung on, but we stopped them scoring, which we haven't done recently. We've gained a result from going a goal behind, and that shows a bit of character from the players. They overcame their fears and came back strongly.

'It's a precious point. We've showed a lot of nerve to come through our bad spell and if we continue like that we're going to be fine.'

Sunderland are next in Action on Tuesday when they take on Manchester City at the Stadium of Light.

Cant see why so happy with a point, surely all three was the target we should have aimed for and been disappointed not to get. I know I'm disappointed.
